Chay’s Vision
My love of writing stems from my own inherent need for communication. As a neurodivergent autistic person who was nonverbal for the first thirteen years of my life, writing became my gateway of self-expression and ‘voice’ to all the things I could not say otherwise.
In a way, writing became my first true language. That formative experience continues to shape my practice as a writer, editor, and publisher. With a focus on lyrical prose with an equally compelling story, my works are written to exist as long-form poetry in narrative form. Like defying my own voicelessness, my writing aims to defy traditional literary conventions and break down the anatomy of my identity, human experience, and the world around me.
I created Cyanica Press as an extension of that same need – to make space for voices that have been dismissed, distorted, or denied. Just as writing became my way into the world, Cyanica exists to offer that doorway to others: a place where neurodivergent, disabled, and chronically ill creatives can express themselves on their own terms. Through Cyanica, I hope to nurture new forms of storytelling that honour difference, embrace complexity, and reimagine what publishing can be when access, care, and authenticity come first.
